An automatic system for measuring road and tunnel lighting performance
Abstract
Various problems in different domains are related to the operation of the Human Visual System (HVS). This is notably the case when considering the driver's visual perception, and road safety in general. That is why several standards of road equipments are directly derived from human visual abilities and especially in road and tunnel lighting installations design.
This paper introduces an automatic system for measuring road and tunnel lighting performance. The proposed device is based on an embedded camera recording of photometric and colorimetric images. The normative measurement grid for performance calculation is projected onto the images by using road marking detection and robust fitting. After a detailed presentation of the methodology, some examples of measurement operations are presented.
